The Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth (LSAY) is a study that follows young Australians over 10 years, from their mid-teens to mid-twenties, as they move through school to further study, work and beyond.
This infographic uses the latest results from the LSAY interviews to explore how young people fared when they were 22 years old in 2022. At age 22, we see young Australians transition from study into full-time work and many are already in the job they want as a career. Results from the surveys also show young Australians are experiencing increasing rates of financial stress and probable mental illness.
Females had higher rates of qualification completions than males
More than half of full-time workers were in their “career job” at age 22
The proportion of 22-year-olds reporting a probable mental illness doubled between 2016 and 2022
1 young person in every 25 experienced homelessness
