This award, established in 2023, supports a Queensland Conservatorium classical voice student or recent alumni by offering the opportunity to travel to Europe to learn and absorb languages and seek out international vocal tuition of the highest standard.

International award-winning Lyrebird Trio (Glenn Christensen, Simon Cobcroft and Angela Turner) present piano trios by Smetana, Suk and Silvestrov. In this fiery program, Czech composer Josef Suk’s Elegy draws upon the richness of Bohemian legends; compatriot Smetana’s passionate Trio explores the full gamut emotions following tragedy. Exiled Ukrainian master Valentin Silvestrov explores a poignant yearning for a time and music that may never have been, in his Fugitive Visions of Mozart.

Under the baton of Johannes Fritzsch, the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra presents Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, a masterpiece renowned for its rhythmic vitality and emotional depth. The work consists of four movements, with the Allegretto second movement being particularly celebrated for its haunting beauty. The concert also features Australian composer Margaret Sutherland’s Haunted Hills – written in contemplation of the first people who roamed the hills, their bewilderment, and their betrayal – and Elgar’s Concert in E minor for Violoncello and Orchestra,Op.85,  with soloist Stirling Hall.
